Shannon Shields

Shannon completed her M.S. in 2019 on tropical cyclone potential intensity interannual variability with Dr. Wing as her major professor. While at FSU, Shannon was a student member of AMS and served as the Secretary of FSU’s Thalassic Society. Also, she is a member of Chi Epsilon Pi Meteorology Honor Society. In terms of experience, Shannon has volunteered at a NWS WFO in Chanhassen, Minnesota and have conducted a subjective evaluation of the WPC’s Winter Storm Severity Index for a NOAA/NCEP internship.

In May 2017, Shannon received my B.S. degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of the OU Student Chapter of AMS/NWA and volunteered at the National Weather Festival hosted at the National Weather Center. Under the advisement of Dr. Elinor Martin, her Capstone Project identified frequency, intensity, and spatial patterns of subseasonal extreme precipitation in the South-Central United States.

Although originally from Minnesota, Shannon has enjoyed living in Oklahoma, Florida, and Maryland. Some of her interests include reading novels, hiking, walking on the beach, horseback riding, and traveling across the U.S. Besides tropical cyclones, she is also interested in supercell storms, tornadoes, and extratropical cyclones.
