My book Urban Remote Sensing (1st edn) was published by John Wiley & Sons in 2011. This book has been translated into Chinese, and was published by China's Higher Education Press on September 1, 2015. The Chinese version received one of the 2015 Best Imported Book Awards given by China Press Association. After ten years of this publication, I am pleased to announce the release of the second edition of Urban Remote Sensing (John Wiley & Sons, 2022). I am a tenured Full Professor in the department of Geography at the Florida State University. My research centers on the development of remote sensing and geospatial analytical technologies with applications to support the geographic inquiries in urban and environmental domails. Specifically, my research interests include but are not limited to the following major areas:

  • Remote sensing and machine learning
  • Spatial data science: GIS-based spatial analysis,modeling & visualization
  • Urban ecology, land change science & ecological sustainability
  • Coastal ecosystems & watershed modeling
  • Applied geomorphology & geo-hazards
  • China

I recently begin a new appointment to direct the M.S. in Geographic Information Science (MSGIS) program for the period of Summer 2022-Spring 2025. I was the author for a proposal to establish the MSGIS program within FSU in 2005. Other active services include the appointment as an editorial board member for several SCI-indexed journals.
