Book Projects (updating)
I have been working on several book projects over that past years, and here is a list of my recent books that have been written in English.
Note that I am updating this site, and the information on several recent books will be added here.
Urban Remote Sensing: Monitoring, Synthesis, and Modeling in the Urban Environment (Edited by Xiaojun Yang, John Wiley & Sons, 2011)
Urban Remote Sensing is a ‘state-of-the-art’ review of the latest developments in the subject. It examines how the new concepts, technologies and methods in remote sensing can be innovatively used to solve problems relevant to a wide range of topics that extend beyond urban feature extraction into areas of urban socioeconomic and environmental analysis and predictive modeling of urbanization. The text covers the advances in sensors and algorithms for deriving urban attribute information, clearly explains how to integrate remote sensor data and other types of geospatial information for developing indicators of urban socioeconomic and environmental conditions, and creatively explores the roles of remote sensing for urban growth simulation and predictive modeling. A dedicated website for this book has been created by the publisher and can be accessed here. Also Amazon has created a website for this book that can be accessed here. A seperate website for this book can be accessed here.
Geoinformatics in Applied Geomorphology (Edited by Siddan Anbazhagan, S.K. Subramanian, and Xiaojun Yang, CRC Press, 2011)
This book provides an overview of geoinformatics and current trends. It discusses airborne laser scanning in geomorphic mapping and groundwater exploration and management. Other topics discussed include shoreline changes and coastal zone management, micromorphological changes in tsunami-effected areas, desert environmental mapping, and geoinformatics in neotectonism. The self-contained chapters begin with basic aspects, follow with geoinformatics application, and finish with relevant case studies. Figures, photographs, tables, and equations are included. A dedicated website for this book has been created by the publisher and can be accessed here. Also Amazon has created a website for this book that can be accessed here.
Advances in Earth Observation of Global Change (Edited by Emilio Chuvieco, Jonathan Li, and Xiaojun Yang, Springer, 2010)
Global Change studies are increasingly being considered a vital source of information to understand the Earth Environment, in particular in the framework of human-induced climate change and land use transformation. Satellite Earth Observing systems provide a unique tool to monitor those changes. While the range of applications and innovative techniques is constantly increasing, this book provides a summary of key case studies where satellite data offer critical information to understand the causes and effects of those environmental changes, minimizing their negative impacts. This book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners in the field of remote sensing, geographical information, meteorology and environmental sciences. Also scientists and graduate up to post-graduate level students in environmental science will find valuable information in this book. Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technologies for Coastal Ecosystem Assessment and Management (Edited by Xiaojun Yang, Springer 2009/2010)
In this landmark publication, leading experts detail how remote sensing and related geospatial technologies can be used for coastal ecosystem assessment and management. This book is divided into three major parts. In the first part several conceptual and technical issues of applying remote sensing and geospatial technologies in the coastal environment are examined. The second part showcases some of the latest developments in the use of remote sensing and geospatial technologies when characterizing coastal waters, submerged aquatic vegetation, benthic habitats, shorelines, coastal wetlands and watersheds. Finally, the last part demonstrates a watershed-wide synthetic approach that links upstream stressors with downstream responses for integrated coastal ecosystem assessment and management.
This book is now available, and those who are interested in purchasing a copy of this book should visit this site from the Springer. A seperate page for this book project can be accessed by clicking here.
