I am a meteorology master’s student researching regional differences in developing tropical disturbances with Dr. Wing’s group. This summer, I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a B.S. in Meteorology and commissioned as a 15W Weather and Environmental Services officer in the U.S. Air Force. Earning my master's degree at Florida State University is my first assignment in this position.

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to study limitations of the Dvorak technique with naval oceanography officers and satellite analysts at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Hawaii. The research was focused on analyzing the constraints of the Dvorak technique to determine if the margins should be restricted or eliminated to increase the reliability of tropical cyclone forecasts. Seeing tropical disturbances forecasted operationally helped me develop an appreciation for understanding the physical mechanisms that contribute to a cyclone’s development and how through accurately modeling said mechanisms, we can take strides in improving forecast accuracy.

I had lived in southwestern Florida my entire life before moving to Colorado for undergrad. While I loved the change in scenery, I am happy to be back where it doesn’t snow! When I’m not studying, I enjoy going to the beach, swimming, and watching niche movies with my friends.
