Service Overview

One of the ways that I have sought to support local community libraries and information services in Florida and nationwide is through service learning opportunities, connecting students interested in real learning experiences with institutions seeking help with real users, questions, and information issues.

iMapLibraries

I have worked on efforts to improve research information for library management, marketing and advocacy, including in social media, through the iMapLibraries project, together with Dr. Christie Koontz and Dean Jue at Florida State University. This project combined GIS mapping of libraries with Census 2010 demographic data and advocacy and outreach via blogging and social media.

Internet Public Library

I have worked to provide opportunities for students to answer real questions from real users at the Internet Public Library (IPL2), a digital library that functions as a question-answering service and virtual learning laboratory for LIS graduate students. Students can also learn to manage IPL2's social media including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and more.

FSUlibIT

Keeping in touch with students today involves not just email but also social media. I help to manage FSULibIT, social media outreach tools that share news and information with our students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Slideshare, Flickr, Wordpress Blog, and MySpace.

Second Life

I participated with our faculty at the College of Communication & Information in iSpace FSU in Second Life, our virtual world campus. See the campus via videos and learn more about our virtual world graduation:
