At fifteen Lena started thinking about her plans. Most of her contemporaries were starting to be loaded down with babies, strung out on chips or dope, or both. Lena refused to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She saved her money and as a sixteenth birthday present bought herself a set of non-retractable hand razors. This was the end of her career as "Legs" (after all, who wants a prostitute with claws), and the beginning of her career with the Las Espadas. Lena had to fight to get into the gang, as there were few female members. However, once in the gang, her intelligence and determination, as well as her physical skills, helped her to secure her position. Once more, Lena looked around to figure out the next step to improving her life, and at seventeen began her career as a runner.
She started running with Runner and Petal and soon the two of them picked up a fourth partner in Warder. Runner and Petal were both killed (Lena had a hand in both deaths). Thus, Lena still refers to Warder, the caramelized runner, as her partner. After the demise of Petal and Runner, Lena and Warder needed additional manpower. They started working with Talis, a gargoyle shaman, and Anderson, a dog shaman, on a more regular basis.
Lena met Anderson on a run against a madman trying to unite the leaders of various gangs to take over Seattle. Lena infiltrated the meeting using the talents learned in her former life as "Legs". Anderson and Blazon infiltrated the building using invisibility. After the meeting started (everyone attending had checked their weapons at the door) the three of them did some major damage, blowing up or gunning down a number of the participants. Lena almost got caught on her way out because she couldn’t resist the opportunity to stab to death the Halcone Sangre’s second in command. Anderson covered the door for her until she got done, and impressed her enough that she asked him out.
About the same time, Lena had the hand razors removed as not fitting her new more professional image and met one Dr. Kynon, who took an interest in mentoring a certain young lady and teaching her a bit about philosophy, politics, and responsibility. Between Anderson, Warder, and Kynon, Lena was doomed. They taught her, mostly through example about the responsibility one has to other human beings and the idea that the only life worth living is one that improves the world. In other words, they got Lena to give up stabbing people to death for fun - she started doing it professionally only.
About this time, Lena and company were hired to take a young girl named Shelly back to her boarding school in Chicago. After dropping her off, Lena spent a relaxing evening at an art show in Chicago. The next day was spent talking with a Chicago gang she had been cultivating as contacts throughout the campaign. That night the bugs broke loose. (Lena hated bugs, not only because of her experience with a certain Roach Shaman, but also because of a small ant problem.) With her new found sense of responsibility Lena went and kidnaped Shelly to get her out of Chicago. Warder assisted her by stealing a number of school buses. Then Lena convinced the allied gang that this was bad news and talked them into letting her take the children and other dependants back to Seattle with her "just until things quieted down". Thus, Lena brought back from Chicago, not only an adopted daughter, but 40 youngsters who doubled the number of Las Espadas and secured her position as a part of the gang’s future leadership.
Lena remodeled her apartment to accommodate Shelly, and ended up with and "extra" room which she asked Anderson to help her think of a use for. He said he could use it if she didn’t want it and he ended up putting a workroom in - even though he maintained a separate residence as well. About that time some guy turned up and told Lena he was her long lost brother. After a rocky start, Lena got to like Cardigan, invited him to her New Year’s Eve Party, he helped her recover from Carissa’s birth, went back-to-school shopping with her, and even attended Carissa’s Christening Picnic. He has ended up with his own bed and bathrooms off the gymnasium in her current apartment, but I am getting ahead of myself.
In time, Lena got very attached to Daniel (Anderson). However, she was quite distressed to discover that he did not seem to be as smitten as she was. Besides, he seemed much more distressed by the secret revealed about her during Harlequin’s Return than she was about the secret from his past. She started taking outrageous chances, coming home bullet-ridden and burned hoping that he would say something and break their unspoken agreement not to interfere in each other’s work and lives. He broke the agreement only once, when he attacked Petal. But Lena took that to be a shamanic rivalry - not personal interest. Nothing else worked, he didn’t react when she helped set up her former associate, Runner. And when she was assassinated during some intergang friction, he was out of town and reacted to the news with a simple "That’s nice, but its all better now." Unable to provoke him into showing the depth of feeling and commitment she wanted, Lena decided that the relationship was undoubtable temporary. Realizing she couldn’t bear to lose all of him, she decided to get pregnant behind his back, so she would have a part of him to keep.
Lena was successful and the pregnancy was revealed during Imago. Daniel’s first question was, fortunately, when were you going to tell me? Which she was able to honestly answer "After I found out". Fortunately for Lena, things did not progress as she expected. Instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to leave, Daniel took it as an opportunity to break those unspoken rules, stating that the baby needed protection from her crazy and headstrong ways (which is something even she will admit in her more honest moments). Thus, it came out that Lena was not exactly worried about losing her precious freedom as Daniel had believed and Daniel was not nearly as uninterested as Lena had believed. Thus, he proposed, shortly after the New Year’s Eve party, they got married (an UNEVENTFUL OCCASION - the GM was kind and didn’t send commandos in to spice up the wedding, probably since all of the other PCs were anticipating such a disaster) and she has become a peaceful retired housewife with three daughters.
O.K., O.K. before anybody else says "right" I will admit that Lena has been doing her best to keep from getting bored by retirement. After all, she almost went nuts in frustration over her boredom during her pregnancy with Carissa. But after the birth, she did recover somewhat. She has set up a gymnasium that provides training in tactics and fighting techniques for young gang members. She has set up a day care center and an elementary school in her apartment building, which she purchased and uses as subsidized housing for young mothers and other members of the community who need a helping hand. She bought the local Street Doc with a modern and well-equipped office and supplemented his income so that he could hire additional medical personnel to help him. (Yes, the gang does have a medical plan). Her interests tend to focus on bring up the next generation and planning for the future. She usually thinks in ten years plans and is currently trying to figure out what to turn her hand to next, now that Lisa has been safely born. She is out-of-shape and unable to return to running. The pregnancy was very difficult (she spent six months bedridden) and she had to cut back her involvement with the gang. Everything is running smoothly without her on a day-to-day basis, and she doesn’t want to interfere with Slag when there is no need.. . . Of course, there is a city election coming up . . . and Daniel could make such a good candidate . . . .
