Abstract

This course portfolio has been designed for the study of representations of Roma in film compared and contrasted to Romani reality.   The course was created to provide students with an accurate frame of reference within which they can critically view and analyze films with Romani characters.  Students are provided with an overview of Romani history coupled with films that correlate to weekly topics.  Required reading for this course includes prominent scholars in the field of Romani Studies such as Hancock, Mayall, Vermeersch, Fraser, and Sonneman.
