Customs/History -
The Seekers were founded about ten years ago when several mages in the Chicago area decided to pursue initiation. The original purpose for the group was the pursuit of knowledge and the improvement of their skills as mages. Though the group is still heavily involved in magical research and scholarship in general, it has developed other goals during the last three to four years. As the group began accepting mages who had experience as shadowrunners, the Seekers became more aware of the political and economic situation in Chicago and the plight of the common citizens. This time period also saw the beginings of Hooding: shadowrunners pulling ops that supported or protected the people of Chicago and the few honest aldermen for little to no compensation.
When a couple of the Seekers started participating in these runs, the rest of the group also became more active in protecting the communities they lived in. By 2055 the Seekers have the reputation of being a shadowy and powerful group of mages which is quite capable of making anyone regret messing with persons or places under their protection. The group is shrouded in mystery and tends to spoken of in whispers and rumors. No one really knows who its members are as they prefer to maintain absolute secrecy, operating in such a manner as to conceal themselves and their actions as much as possible. The Seekers have become very good at this game. In fact, there are some who argue that the Seekers are nothing but an urban myth.
The group originaly had five members, of whom only three are still alive. Though all but one of them were researchers or academics, all eventually became involved in Hooding to some extent. Two of them lost their lives working in the shadows, another retired, one is the current unofficial leader of the group and the last had a falling out with the group, being forced to leave. Seven people have been recruited since the group was formed. Three of them are now dead and two left after a couple years of membership. Their departures were amiable and they have maintained occasional contact since then. One is known to be in Europe somewhere and the other usually operates out of Atlanta.
The current members are:
All are human except for Raven, who is a dwarf and Arillan who is an elf.
Rourke-Kennedy was one of the founders of the group and is in semi-retirement, mostly involved in some research and providing his experience to the group during their council meetings.
Riyan Evenstar, an elf, was one of the original trio who initially developed the strictures and traditions of the Seekers. He was very active in both the group and the local shadow community until around five years ago when he resigned his membership and disappeared. It is rumored that he ended up working for the Council of Princes in Tir Tairngire. A couple years ago, Evenstar reappeared in Seattle using the name Alexander Kynon. He is currently a guest professor at the University of Seattle's School of Magical Studies.
The other surviving founding member is a dwarf called "Dagger." Known only by his street name even among most of the Seekers, Dagger was exiled from the group two years ago. The exact details surrounding his expulsion are known only to RK, Raven and himself. There are however, indications that Dagger's exile was somehow a result of the death of one of the other Seekers around that same time period. It has also been rumored that Evenstar was somehow involved even though it was during the period that his whereabouts were unknown. Dagger's current base of operations are uncertain. He appears to have remained active in the shadow community and has been seen most recently in Seattle.
