About Transportation Systems Optimization (TSO) lab
The primary objective of Transportation Systems Optimization Lab (TSO Lab) is to narrow the gap between the operations research community and the transportation practitioners’ world, through the application of advanced mathematical modelling and optimization methods, in order to improve the efficiency, sustainability, reliability, and equity in transportation systems. We use integer programming, nonlinear programming, big data analytics as main research tools, and occasionally draw theories from microeconomics and behavioral science. We have developed innovative applications of the above main methodologies in several core areas of transportation, including ridesharing, public transportation, freight and logistics, and air transportation.
About the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering
Our lab is part of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, which is the only shared college of engineering in the nation. Our students enroll and graduate as FSU Seminoles or FAMU Rattlers. All our students start their college experience on the home campus; once prerequisites are complete, they learn together at our engineering building. This unique collaboration between a top Historically-Black University (FAMU) and a Research-1 institution (FSU) makes us a great place to learn cutting-edge engineering skills in a diverse environment offering real-world experience that employers value. For more information about the College, visit https://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/.
The joint nature of this college allows one faculty member at one university to receive a courtesy appointment at the other university. Therefore, the Lab Director Dr. Yanshuo Sun has the rights of a faculty member at both FSU and FAMU for conducting teaching, research and service.
We are actively looking for motivated graduate students to work in the TSO Lab. For more information, click here.
