About Somasundaram (சோமசுந்தரம் பற்றி)

Welcome to Somasundaram's [aka Soma's] MyWeb@FSU web page! I am the Director of the Macromolecular X-Ray Facility at the Kasha Laboratory, Institute of Molecular Biophysics. I am a 12-month non-tenured faculty at Florida State University with a title of Research Associate. I have been at the Institute since 1993. In this site you will find information about my professional work and personal interests.

Professional Work (சோமசுந்தரத்தின் வேலை விபரங்கள்)

I am responsible for the day to day operation of the X-Ray Facility (XRF) including teaching graduate students, post-docs, and staff how to collect, process, and interpret macromolecular x-ray diffraction data. I maintain and upgrade the hardware and software on XRF Instruments and XRF Computers. I also maintain the X-Ray Facility's & Institute's web sites. I serve as a safety officer for the Institute and coordinate safety training of its members with FSU Safety Office. Since summer of 2007 I have been involved with Dept of Biological Science's Young Scholars Program. Since 2010 summer I have been learning to use FEI's Titan Krios electron microscope at the Biological Science Imaging Resource (BSIR) Facilty in the Biological Science Department.

Personal Interests (சோமசுந்தரத்தின் சொந்த விருப்பங்கள்)

I am actively involved with FSU international community through FSU's Center for Global Engagement. I am the immediate past President of the India Association of Tallahassee (IATLH), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, promoting Indian culture and heritage among citizens of Tallahassee, Florida, USA. I currently serve as the Chairman Elect for the Asian Coalition of Tallahassee (ACT), a cultural organization that aims to unite people from various Asian countries and promote awareness of Asian culture, heritage, and art throughout the greater Leon county. I am one of the co-founders of the Tallahassee Tamil Sangam (TTS) | டலஹாசி தமிழ் சங்கம் that is dedicated to teaching and spreading Tamil language among the Tamil loving people of Tallhassee and surrounding area. I was a member of the Complete Count Committee of the Florida's Sunshine Census which was part the 2010 US Census.
