Welcome to Somasundaram's [aka Soma's] web site at FSU with information about my professional and personal interests. I am a Distinguished University Scholar [2021], Faculty Senator [2022-23], Senior Research Associate, and 12-month non-tenured faculty at the Florida State University and the Director of the Macromolecular X-Ray Facility at the Kasha Laboratory, Institute of Molecular Biophysics (IMB). I have been working at FSU and IMB since 1993.

Professional Work (சோமசுந்தரத்தின் வேலை விபரங்கள்)

I am responsible for the IMB X-Ray Facility, including teaching graduate students how to collect, process, and interpret macromolecular x-ray diffraction data. From 2013 to 2019, I was responsible for the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry's two powder x-ray diffractometers. Since 2007, I have been a mentor for the Department of Biological Science's Young Scholars Program. Since 2013, I am member of Florida Core Network and organized Florida Core Network Event 3. From September 2016 until now, I have been the Treasurer, President-elect, and President for Southeastern Association of Shared Resources (an affiliate of ABRF). Since 2014, I have been a faculty advisor for FSU's Recognized Student Organization (RSO) HEAL. In Jan 2017, I helped host the Caspar Structural Biology Symposium at FSU CSL Auditorium. In 2021, I was elected to the Faculty Senate, as a senator with a two-year term [2022-23].

Personal Interests (சோமசுந்தரத்தின் சொந்த விருப்பங்கள்)

Between 2005 and 2013, I served the India Association of Tallahassee (IATLH), at various capacities (Event Coordinator, General Secretary, President, and Trustee). Between 2007 and 2019 I have served at various capacities (Chair-Elect,Chairman, and Board Member) for the Asian Coalition of Tallahassee (ACT), a 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural organization that aims to promote awareness of Asian culture, heritage, and art throughout the greater Leon county. I am co-founder of the Tallahassee Tamil Sangam (TTS) that is dedicated to spreading Tamil language among the Tamil loving people of Tallhassee. From 2014 through 2019, I was member of the Tallahassee Human Relations Council and since 2016, I have been member of the Leon County Science Advisory Commmittee. Sinc 2019, I have been learning Arabic (????? ??????? ).
