How to get started with our Learning Content Management System

Liying Miao, Florida A&M University

Organizational Development and Training office has had this great Learning Content Management System that contains more than 600 courses that are in different business and academic areas. However, there is only one problem. There are only a small number of employees who actually have used it. Since it’s a very expensive system, we’d like to advertise it and show our employees how easy it is to use the system and benefit from it.

The learner audience is the whole campus community. All employees, regardless where they are, are encouraged to access the Learning Content Management System (LCMS) to explore the courses and complete them. I created the first part of the tutorial. It talks about how to set up an account, how to browse our courses, enroll in a particular course and then launch it. This also paves a way for the later lessons, which will go in more depth of how to navigate in a certain course, start the quizzes and view the test scores if any.
The learning objective here is after this podcast, an employee should be able to set up his own FAMU chalkboard account and start taking courses. Certainly this 3 minute long podcast is only designed to get the learners in the door. There should be many sessions following this one for them to master our LCMS. There are security issues, course tools, reporting tools that are associated with the system as well. Those will be covered in the later lessons.
I do hope I can complete a set of tutorials with audio and video capabilities so employees can have a visual tool to assist them with the usage of the system. With 3 years of experience in training, most of our employees are visual learners. WYSIWYG is worth thousands of words. Therefore, this first podcast will just serve as a introductory level of exercise because I don’t think this alone will be enough to help audience grasp the complete content.

This is a tutorial that teaches you how to get started with FAMU's Learning Content Management System. You can click on this link to get to our LCMS to follow along. http://famu.chalknetwork.com/FAMU/signin/signin.aspx
