As I was exploring the website dealing with TEI: Text Encoding Initiative, I noticed that there were several elements that were thoroughly emphasized. This particular website was very detailed which made it easy for me to completely understand the full meaning of text encoding in general. There were different drop down menus that I was able to look through I was exploring the website. Under the Goals and Missions drop down menu, I came across the mission of TEI as a whole. The mission of the Text Encoding Initiative is to develop and maintain a set of high-quality guidelines for the encoding of humanities texts, and to support their use by a wide community of projects, institutions, and individuals. The mission statement allowed me to fully understand the sole purpose of the TEI. I did not necessarily understand what TEI meant before I visited this website, however.
Furthermore on another website, in the Introduction, dealing with the topic of text encoding in the computing world, text encoding holds a lot of importance. In reference to analysis and research, it is necessary to be used. The sole purpose of text encoding is to pair each character from a given repertoire with something else, according to research. Also in this website, TEI was discussed thoroughly as well. The explanation was separated into different sections to describe the different aspects of TEI. It was first introduced with a background and an origin. Another way that TEI was emphasized was through general nature and structure and larger significance of the TEI.
Although this topic did not spark any of my interests, I was able to gain insight on this topic as far as understanding the perks of TEI.
