I am seeking information on Robert J. Floyd who appears on the 1850 and 1860 Franklin Co. FL censes:
1850 Franklin Co., FL 6th Precinct R. J. Floyd, male, age 30, b. KY, lawyer G. J. Floyd, male, age 9, b. Florida 1860 Franklin Co., FL Apalachicola Robert J. Floyd, male, age 40, b. KY, collector of customs Gabriel J. Floyd, male, age 19, b. FloridaI believe Robert to be the son of Gabriel Jones Floyd and Susan M. Conn of KY and IN, or to be related in some manner to this family. This Gabriel was the son of Davis Floyd and Susannah Jones Johnston. Davis Floyd was a politician in Indiana, and was appointed a territorial land commissioner to Florida in 1823 by James Monroe. Davis Floyd was the brother of Charles Floyd of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and first cousin to Nathaniel Hale Pryor, also of the expedition.
A family letter dated 1849 showed John Valentine Singer to be living at Apalachicola, Franklin County, FL. He was a brother to Isaac Merritt Singer of the Sewing Machine fame. Another person's information online showed that he died there as well, but somewhere in between, he led a very colorful life in the South having left a family in Illinois, and starting a new one in the south. A son, Edgar Collins Singer, was instrumental in the group who developed the torpedo, and the submarine "Hunley" which was recently raised off coast of Charleston. I am related to the family left in the north, and am wondering if anyone has heard or seen records of this man in Franklin Co, FL?

Previously I posted for KNICKMEYER/RUSSEL, I now have a few new leads that someone may be able to help me with.
I believe the Mary Louisa married to Robert E. Knickmeyer had the surname of LICHTENFELD. Her father was Daniel Lichtenfeld, he appears in the 1850 Census under Zunderfeldt, which after some research I discovered to really be Lichtenfeld. He had five children, Louisa Jr., Valentine, Charles, Elenora, and Mary R. Lichtenfeld. He was not listed in the 1860 Census, however the rest of the family was, probably died between 1855-1860.
I believe that Florida Russel's father was Henry RUSSEL listed on the 1860 Census.
I have not been able to prove or disprove these theories, any information or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on the marriage of John DAFFIN and Indiana Bracewell GRAY (nee SUTLIVE), which may have taken place on St. George Island in 1856. John Daffin is listed in the Leon County Census of 1850. My grandmother stated that her grandmother (Indiana Sutlive) and John Daffin (her grandfather) were married somewhere in "north Florida, around St. George or Newport". I found a note that indicated that John Daffin's uncle lived on St. George Island, and that the marriage may have been at his residence. John Daffin was originally from North Carolina (Halifax, I think) and Indiana B. Sutlive was born in Ft. Gaines Georgia. They later moved to Bainbridge GA, where John Daffin died in 1860. It looks like the state records in Jacksonville for marriages don't go back that far. Does the Franklin County Courthouse maintain records for this time period?
Thanks for any information.

I am looking for any information concerning JOHN HENRY WILSON who was born in 1849 in Florida. His father is believed to have died when he was 2 and his mother when he was 5 years old. After his parent's deaths John is believed to have lived with his maternal grandmother WILLIAMS. John later moved to Valdosta, Georgia by way of Ozark, Alabama. Family tradition is that he served with the home guard as a youngster at Natural Bridge near Tallahassee during the war. The last information I received said they had tracked him to Franklin County.

Researching Mary "Polly" Thomas, whose full name is possibly Sarah Mary Thomas. Mary "Polly" Thomas mar. Richard M. Capps, 1855, Pike Co, AL. They had at least one child, Emma E. Capps, b 1857, Pike Co, AL. According to a family letter written in 1934: Richard M & Mary "had some girls." The letter also states that Richard M died between 1860 and 1870 and "this widow moved with some of ther brothers to Florida at or near Apalachicola."
In the 1870 Franklin Co census (Apalachicola Post Office) I found this family:
Capps, Sarah, 44, SC Emma E., 15, AL Martha J, 11, AL Mary A, 9, AL Susan E., 7.
I think it is possible that Sarah Capps is Sarah Mary Thomas Capps and am looking to prove or disprove this theory.
Also, the stepson of Mary Thomas and Richard M Capps-- Henry Jackson Capps-- is known to have worked in the salt making industry near Apalachicola during the Civil War and finally settled in Chipola, Calhoun Co, FL.
Any information would be most appreciated and I am glad to share what I have.
Thank you.

My grandfather, ARTHUR LEONARD ROBERTS, was born in Wakulla County in 1877.
His mother, Emma E. CAPPS, B: 1855 was from Alabama & his father,
William Thomas ROBERTS B: 1851 somewhere nearby in Florida. I would like
to find out more information on both of these family lines. I believe
Emmas mother was named Sarah but do not know her maiden name. Emma I
believe was one of four girls. At the time of the 1870 census of
Franklin County, it shows mother Sarah with 4 girls - Emma E, Martha J. Mary
and a Susan. No mention of William or a male name. Anyone knowing more
about these family lines, please contact me via my E-Mail.
Many thanks.

his wife Rachel Sweat were in Franklin County, Florida in 1870. They
had lived in Georgia before that and ended up in Camden and Glenn

Franklin County and why they may have moved there would be
appreciated. Thanks. Claudia Naugle
