Goal
We’d like to provide technical help to patrons via qr codes that link to how-to’s and other online resources. Patrons can scan the codes with their mobile devices and receive instruction about how to use the tech equipment available in the library.
Materials
-
We’ll use 3" by 4" stickers from Avery for code printing:
https://www.avery.com/products/labels/5164
-
Stickers will adhere to laminated 8.5" by 11" signs.
-
The Marketing department will create the sign template according to established library sign guidelines.
Here’s an example sign. This is not the finished design.

Method
-
Shorten a link to an online technical resource via http://bit.ly. Bit.ly’s service provides two advantages:
-
generation of customized fla.st links
-
click tracking so we can know if anyone is using the resources
-
-
Create a qr code for this link at http://the-qrcode-generator.com. After creating the code, save it as an eps or svg for use in Adobe Illustrator. These are vector formats and will scale easily.
-
Use Avery’s tools to place the code into the template and print.
-
Place the code sticker onto the laminated sign.
Targets
Potential targets for qr code help include:
-
the KIC scanners (no online docs yet)
-
the Instruction Room AV equipment (Strozier only)
-
Microform Machines (supplement the paper guide)
-
Virtual Desktops (what software does each machine offer?)
-
Public printing (online docs from OBS exist)
-
ADA equipment?
-
Study room schedules/reservations
