General Appearance: | Windy is a shapely, graceful woman with a pleasingly full figure. Windy takes great care with her looks and her choice of clothing is usually based on what will best enhance her beauty and catch the eye. She leans toward tight fitting and light ("skimpy") outfits made of high quality materials in colors which highlight her coloring. |
Personality Traits | |
Surface: | Impulsive and outgoing
|
Hidden: | Inquisitive and maternal
As a great-grandmother, Windy finds it difficult to keep all of her maternal instincts under wraps. She is very much a leader and a doer rather than a follower. She loves being the center of attention and meeting new people.
|
Moral Code: | Windy's moral code is fairly standard for a windling. She revers life and freedom, choosing to avoid killing if at all possible unless her opponent is strongly in opposition of freedom and life. As a result, she bears very little love for Theran slavers, though she does not seek to kill Therans in general. She has been known to refer to Theran Windlings as "talking bugs who bear no relation to the windling race and who should swatted like any other annoying insect." She very much likes to help people and takes very seriously her role as a troubadour in keeping hope and knowledge alive in the people of Barsaive.
|
Special Qualities:
| Windy's past brings a great deal of experience to her role as an adventurer. While it may not be uncommon for an adventurer to marry and raise a family after retiring, an adventurer's life is Windy's retirement from common family life within a fairly typical windling community. |
Loves: | New songs and stories fascinate Windy. She also bears a great affection for single windling men and pretty clothes and jewelry.
|
Hates: | There are few things Windy truly hates. She does hold a special place in the darkest coldest reaches of her heart for slavers and people who deliberately destroy people's lives.
|
Ambitions: | For every person in Barsaive to have heard her songs... |
Background History | |
Origin: |
Named Summerwind by her parents, she was known as Summer in her youth and eventually "mom" for many years. When her first great-grandchild was born and she decided it was time to change her life, she began to use Windy, especially whenever she met new people. Windy was born and raised in Kaer Willowheart a couple of decades before it opened at the end of the scourge. Situated in eastern Barsaive, Kaer Willowheart was originally inhabited by Windlings and Obsidimen with a scattering of other name-givers who sought refuge as the scourge loomed closer. By the time Windy was born, almost all of the non-windling and non-obsidiman inhabitants had died out (largely as a result of no one to have children with).
As a young woman, Windy dabbled with the Troubadour's art, but served primarily as one of the kaer's few Scout adepts. She and her friends were among the first to leave Kaer Willowheart and bring back word that the outside was relatively safe. They helped to open the Kaer and to explore the wilds around it. After the Opening, most of Willowheart's inhabitants settled the lands surrounding it forming several villages that were all close enough to the old Kaer that it could be used as a fortification in times of need. Windy and her husband, Brighteyes, were among the first inhabitants of the Kaer to settle outside and were very involved in helping the land regain it's strength and beauty. Along with a group of friends, they were for a time the community's most vigorous band of adventurer's, searching out new homes and fighting off dangerous wildlife left from the Scourge. In time, Windy and Brighteyes "settled down" to raise a family. They became important members of their village and had three children before he died in an electrical storm. Windy spent the next several decades raising her children and cross-children and helping them raise their children. In time she found herself looking out for windlings other than those of her own family and eventually ended up as one of the Elders. Over the years, she found use for her talents as a Troubador and kept them in use, but slowly left behind her Scout discipline, eventually loosing those talents all together. Almost a hundred years after the Kaer had opened, Windy found herself a great-grandmother. Her children were all grown and successful as were most of her five grandchildren. As her first great-grandchild, Thistle, was born she found herself wondering what she should do with the rest of her life. Her children no longer really needed her and for the first time in her life since her husband had died she found herself with the freedom to do whatever she wanted. She decided to pursue her calling as a Troubadour and go forth to see the world. |
Reason for adventuring: | Change and wonder. To see the world with new eyes and to make a mark on it. To bring joy and hope to lives of others...
Windy also feels a need to make up for all the years she has spent being responsible and (nearly) celebate. She and Brighteyes were destined to become "responsible elders" at a fairly young age. between raising their own children and grandchildren, they had little time for fun and adventuring once the Kaer was abandoned for good. Once Windy was widowed her responsibilities increased. Then when her cross-children were orphaned and she took them in her responsibilities increased again. When Thistle, her great grandson, was born, Windy no longer had ant familial responsibilities. her children and others born outside the Kaer were able to take over her responsibilities as an elder. So Windy has taken to the adventuring life determined to make up for every moment of pleasure and freedom she has missed before her age catches up with her. |
