Windlings Can Fly

You may not know why the blood wood weeps,
and may not know how a fish sleeps.
You may not know if obsidimen cry,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

In an inn, Elias was biding his time
when a guard attacked without reason or rhyme
causing fair Windy the Windling to whine:
"Great, I'm a witness to the crime."

You may not know why a bluebird sings,
and may not know how a butterfly grows wings.
You may not know how to sail through the sky,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

Soon the town had set a date
for the story to come to the magistrate
leaving Windy to sit and wait
for on her tale rested Elias' fate.

You may not know how tall a tree grows
and may not know if a snail has a nose.
You may not know why mountains are high,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

The night before trial, In the Inn
sat the evil guardsman's kin.
Against Windy's tale they could not win,
so they decided to do her in.

You may not know what makes the sunrise,
and may not know how a star dies.
You may not know why children ask "Why?",
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

Selecting the strongest and smartest three,
they assigned to them this murder so key.
Of walls and roofs Windy chose to be free,
so they gathered around while she slept in a tree.

You may not know of the sea of fire,
and may not know your very own sire.
You may not know barley from rye,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

Windy would have had to bet,
she was the first Windling they had met.
As to the tree with axes two set,
while the third held out a net.

You may not know how to read,
and you may not know how to plant a seed.
You may not know when a storm grows nigh,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

Amazed at what they were trying to do,
Kavros walked up to watch that crew.
When they had cut nearly through,
off to fetch the guard, Windy flew.

You may not know how good friends can part,
and may not know the passion within an ork's heart,
You may not know why your sweetheart does sigh,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

The final corner the Guardsman came round
Carrying fair Windy as the tree fell down
ruining a house and waking half the town
to the three, Kavros, said with a frown:

You may not know what it's like in a caer,
and you may not know what is honest and fair.
You may not know the truth from a lie,
but don't you know that windlings can fly?

You may not know which things to sell or buy,
and you may not know how a knot to untie.
You may not know when you will die,
but remember 'til then that windlings can fly!
