Sir John

Chorus:

Welcome home Sir John, Sir John,
Welcome home, Sir John
For so long you were gone,
Your return took so long.
How did your journey go wrong?

Once from the twilight peaks,
A ship sails to prey on the weak
Because very light it flies
Lacking a full crew and supplies
It found it's own death and demise.

Though long he did roam,
John, at last made it home,
To his own village, hearth, and bed.
His people, who once thought him dead,
Cried out as one and they said:

(Chorus)

The question removed his large grin
Looking at friends and at kin
John hardly knew were to begin
Then this tale he started to spin
"It all started at a small inn

I had not gone very far
When I stopped for the night at this bar
Then my tale gets quite bizarre
For in addition to the dwarven guest
Two others were there taking their rest."

(Chorus)

"First was a small little bug
Who sat on the mantel and sung
Drinking from a thimble-sized mug
A toothpick as a blade slung,
with her words she cut and stung.

Though we didn't talk long
The bard wrote it into a song
Someday I'll revenge that wrong
But back then I did not know
Better than to tell my tale of woe."

(Chorus)

"Carrying arrows and an elven bow
Gorian said his hello.
Though he is quite slight,
he is very good in a fight
Men die when his arrows take flight

My friendship he put to a test
As I went with him on a quest
He drove us on without rest.
Three times we crossed the land
To fulfill Fireleaf's last demand."

(Chorus)

"Darin, a dwarf, needed my aid
And offered to see me well paid
Though by Krell Tam he was betrayed,
I fulfilled my hired role
he made the trip sound and whole"

A fierce lizard John did not mention
Even though it's bite got his attention
And nearly his tools for reproduction
For though John's arm did not tire
It's life was lost to Windy and Berrybriar.

(Chorus)

"Then we came to Breetown
A place with assassins all around
Who attacked your back without a sound.
But then at last I came to see
It was just a case of mistaken identity

Raven Farstrider also was there
Another troll with bright red hair
Bloodpebbles also did he wear
Seeing him I could understand
How those oafs got the wrong man."

(Chorus)

"Raven had a message to carry
One with which he could not tarry
And since he was the hunted quarry
I agreed to take the letter
Though I should have known better

A scorcher band, Espagras in flight
A herd of squirrels, and a naval fight,
Even theives concealed by night
How many people have to die
Before I deliver this, I sigh."

(Chorus)

So many people, so many places
Kept me from your welcome faces
I have walked so many paces
Fought and killed so many men
Just to return home again

Home in my mountains high
Near familiar ships that fly
I can only shake my head and sigh
For my trip would have been a shorter thing
If only Windlings could not sing!
