Ballad of the Crimson Dawn

Chorus:
Beware the horror's dull red light,
Attacking ships in midflight.
Beware the horror's teeth and might,
Flying faster than a kite.
Beware these creatures with poor sight,
They took the Crimson Dawn last night.
And though Bertram put up a fight,
Grief now holds Kathleen tight.

Bertram loved the fair Kathleen.
Prettiest woman he'd ever seen,
With courage strong, wit sharp and keen,
Of his heart, she was Queen.

True, Kathleen's dreams had come,
When she met her brave Bertram.
Her joy caused her to sing and hum
As she served both food and rum.

Kathleen and Bertram planned to wed,
When they had both hearth and stead.
For gold she served where the wealthy fed,
While he went where the air ships led.

(Chorus)

The Crimson Dawn came from the west
Last night carrying Trevar's best.
High above in her crow's nest,
Bertram faced his final test.

Admiring stars that brightly gleamed
Of fair Kathleen, Bertram dreamed
He did not see the red stars that seemed
To dance past the moon that beamed.

As he looked in the sky
He saw only Kathleen's eyes,
Her cherished heart so warm and wise,
The golden future that before them lies.

(Chorus)

Out of nowhere the horrors appeared,
Arms of flame with which they steered.
Though the ship swooped and veered,
They were caught as they had feared.

As they slaughtered helpless crew
Bertram knew what he must do
He struck a blow sound and true.
That was the last thing he knew.

Turning before a word was said,
The horror ripped off Bertram's head,
On his body it then fed,
Leaving bereft a bride unwed.

(Chorus)

A sunset bright and copper hued,
Or tragedy had held no clue.
Kathleen smiled because she knew,
Bertram soon would come to woo.

With a bright and cheerful attitude,
Kathleen served both drink and food.
Her love and joy did exude,
As thoughts of Bertram lightened her mood.

Kathleen did not know
That her most beloved beau
Was facing now his final foe
And into eternal night would go.

(Chorus)

The ship then crashed in fair Trevar,
The horrors each a small red star.
Then like milk spilled from a jar,
The fire began to travel far.

Digging a trench across a lawn
Containing the fire from the Crimson Dawn
A troll saw that not all were gone:
One survivor was rescued by John.

The Warden of the Air
Saw Kathleen, the young and fair.
Captured by her desperate stare,
He gave the news he had to bear.

(Chorus)

When Kathleen at last was told,
That Bertram again, she'd never hold,
She'd lost her love so brave and bold,
Her heart and soul went still and cold.

Kathleen had looked forward to the hour
Bertram came from the air dock tower
Slowly she wilted, a fragile flower,
Torn by a loss beyond her power

Gripped by the deepest despair,
Wept Kathleen so young and fair.
She had thought he'd always be there
And for Bertram's loss did not prepare.

(Chorus)

Kathleen now has a quest
To avenge Trevar's best
Deep into the horror's nest
She goes to ensure Bertram's rest.

(Chorus)
