Character History
Kenneth McRory grew up in the Allaire district of Houston. His father was police officer with the State of Texas and his mother was an accountant employed by the Port Authority. He grew up in a lower upper class neighborhood around kids who played cowbows and Texas Rangers. Graduating from high school, Ken decided to follow his father’s footsteps, but couldn’t afford to go to college yet. In order to make more money for school, Ken enlisted in the CAS Marine Corp. He spent four years in the Marines, serving with a Force Recon platoon. At the end of his enlistment, he decided to leave the service and instead accepted a job with Lone Star, Inc. He did six months on the street as a beat cop in Austin before getting assigned to Tactical as a SWAT Sniper. Two years later he was transferred to the SWAT force in Seattle.
The next three years went well as Ken got to enjoy Seattle and made friends. He became known as a reliable operator who was able to cover anyone’s but inspite of the SWAT’s lack of official cross-training. One Sunday last December, his SWAT detachment was called out to catch a terrorist who was attempting to smuggle a nuclear weapon into a downtown Tacoma mall. The SWAT troopers set themselves up in an effort to take the terrorist down before he could activate the weapon. Stationed in the rafters of the giant building, Ken found himself with the only solid lock on the target. The one problem with the shot was the large crowds milling about the mall, totally unaware of their danger.
Reporting that the shot was dirty, he was ordered to disregard the incidentals and open fire anyway. He hesitated, then pulled the trigger. His first shot blew a five-year old girl off her father’s shoulders and creased the target’s arm. His second missed by centimeters and shattered a man’s leg. Going into automatic, he switched to burst fire and tried to down the target before he could escape from open center of the mall. A teenage boy died and three others spent their Christmas in the intensive care ward.
Ken turned in his badge and quit the Star the next day. Ultimately, the shooting was judged clean and no charges were filed against him, but he refused to go back. Since then, Ken has been trying to figure out what to do with his life. His girlfriend initially broke up with him over quiting, but they have been making efforts to repair the damage. Recently, he has decided that he needs to find work. As a result, he has been wandering the Seattle night scene looking for anyone interested in hiring extra security.
