Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics     12
Hobbit Hurlers  6

The short summer season brings a new look for the Professor & the Mechanics.  One of the mechanics, who is also the founding member, sponsor & captain, is taking a leave of absense from the dart league.  Bill did agree to continue to sponsor & support the team throughout his semi-retirement.  P&M recuited veteran dart leaguer Rachael to fill his shoes during the interim.  The first match of the summer pitted P&M against the Hobbit Hurlers, consisting of two veterans & two rookies.   At the newly renovated Hobbit Hoagie, P&M began strong on the new boards.  In singles, Leroy swept Larry, Erik defeated Ed in 3, Andrew won by the same margin over Patrick, & Rachael lost both games to Adam.  We split with the Hurler in doubles ... Andrew & Rachael fell in 2, while Leroy & Erik won in two.  That left us up by 2 going into four-man.  P&M buckled down after falling behind in game 1 to win the game & the following to achieve the final margin of 6 points.  Next week, P&M plays at Poor Pauls.

Bonus Points:
Leroy had 7.
Erik had 5.
Andrew had 3.

Shafted  8

The Professor & the Mechanics rode their summer record to 2-0 last night after coming from behind to beat Shafted at a very hot Poor Paul's.  P&M fell behind early in singles by a point.  Leroy beat Mike in two, Erik won over Dave in 3, Andrew & Rachael were swept by Pat & Will.  We split in doubles with Erik & Leroy winning in 3, while Rachael & Andrew lost in 3.  Down by a point going into 4-man, we drew from the inspiration of team owner & former captain, Bill.  Despite this, we fell behind in the first 601 game by a couple of hundred points.  A round of Crown Royal shots were ordered to fire up the troops.  This worked as Erik & Leroy had back-to-back 123 & 121 scores.  Coupled with Rachael & Andrew's solid scores of 60, and a two-dart out by Rachael, P&M won the game & took the overall lead in the match.  The second 601 game was initiated with another round of shots which continued to inspire the team.  We won handily, and took the match by 3 points.

Bonus Points:
Leroy had 6.
Erik had 5.
Andrew had 3.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics     4
Back Breakers  12

After a promising start last night at the Crawfordville Road Hobbit, the Back Breakers dominated the Professor & the Mechanics in doubles and in four-man to hand us our first loss of the summer season.  We began even with BB in singles as Andrew beat Ernie in 2, Erik topped Clint in a sweep, Leroy fell to Lou, & Rachael lost Tracey - both in 2 games.  Those four points would be the only points we would score all night.  Both doubles teams (Andrew & Rachael, Leroy & Erik) were swept, and we failed to mount a challenge in 601.  We'll look to redeem ourselves next week when we play another all-star team, Sam I Am, at Poor Paul's.

Bonus Points:
Leroy had 7.
Andrew had 6.
Erik had 3.
Rachael had 1.

Sam I Am  12

Another match against a perennial all-star team ... another 12-4 thumping.  This time it was Sam I Am who put the whooping on the Professor & the Mechanics.  We actually walked away from Poor Paul's feeling good about not being handed a sweep.  We came together in 4 man to win both games in impressive fashion.  The evening started inauspicious at best when all four of us were swept by our opponents in singles:  Andrew to Greg, Rachael to Duski, Leroy to Ish, & Erik to Lewis.  Falling short of exacting revenge, both P&M teams were also swept in doubles.  With our sponsor unavailable to give a pep talk, and no inspiration for more shots, P&M were left on our own to find the will to win 4-man.  Drawing from fear of being swept 16-0, we played even with the talented opponents, and relied on our captain to close out both games.  The loss drops us to 2-2 on the season with two matches remaining.  We'll celebrate our nation's birth next week before taking on Animal Crackers at the Hobbit.

Bonus Points:
Erik had 5.
Andrew & Leroy had 4.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics     8
Animal Crackers  12

I was robbed!  I was leading nearly the entire game only to see Lewis of the Back Breakers correctly answer the final question to jump ahead of me ... dropping me to second place in the trivia finale at Pockets.  Oh ... wait ... I'm here to write about darts.  In darts, the Professor & the Mechanics suffered a defeat to the Animal Crackers last night at the Salty Dawg ... home of the 1st Annual Beacon's Light Dart Tournament on July 21st (at least that's what the cool poster hanging on the wall of our most recent disappointment states).  Anyway ... P&M, with our captain suffering from the effects of a virus, struggled for much of the night before coming alive in the final two games of the evening to close the final margin to a respectable 4 points.  The night began a little late, but finished quickly as a forfeit in another match allowed us to utilize four boards.  We lost on three of them in singles:  Erik was swept by Jeff, Rachael played very well in her flukish, narrow loss by only 2 games to Beth (how's that for nice?), Leroy made it through his match ... losing to his soft-tip partner, Chris, in 3 games.  Andrew won in 2 over Skip.  In doubles, P&M lost both matches in three games.  This made the score 10-5 heading into 4-man.  It quickly worsened to 12-5 after we were clobbered in the first game.  But, Erik ordered Reuben sandwiches for the team, and we came alive --- winning the final two games to claim the 601 match 3-2, and close the final margin to only 4 points (only later did we find out that the Reuben's were for Erik & his brother).

Bonus Points:
Erik, Andrew, and Leroy had 3.
Rachael had 2.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics     4
Wonderdawgs  14

The Professor & the Mechanics closed out the short summer league with a resounding defeat at the darts of the Wonderdawgs at the Breakroom.  At the end, we were able to salvage one of the 601 games to double our score to a measly 4 points.  Leroy picked up our other 2 points earlier in the evening by beating Kelly in singles 2-1.  The rest of P&M were swept in singles ... Andrew lost to John, Erik lost to Calvin, & Rachael lost to Sheila.  A couple of rounds of shots failed to resuscitate the troops, and we were also swept in doubles.  After losing the first game of 601, we were trailing by a miserable 13-2 score.   We pulled together in a show of unity to win the second game, but our efforts to win the event were thwarted in the final game.   As usual, we were able to quickly put the loss behind us, and enjoyed a lively round of shuffleboard to pacify our competitive urges.  Despite our final record, this season has been another successful and enjoyable one for the Professor & the Mechanics.  It was strange not playing without our long-time captain & sponsor, Bill, ... but, Rachael was able to fill the void, sometimes matching or exceeding Bill's rowdiness.  We finished with a 2-4 record ... winning our first two matches, then losing the final 4.  We look forward to next season, where we should be competitive in a lower division.

Bonus Points:
Leroy had 5.
Erik & Andrew had 4.
Rachael had 2.
