Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    16
Up in Smoke  0

The Professor & the Mechanics showed up at the Breakroom last night prepared to begin the fall campaign.  But, like Cheech and Chong, our opponents were "Up in Smoke".  After waiting until minutes before the deadline, the Professor & the Mechanics' team secretary, Rachael called their team captain ... waking him from a nap.   Not surprisingly, he agreed to forfeit the match, giving us the 16-0 victory.  The Professor & the Mechanics used the free time to hone our dart, billiard, and pizza eating skills.  Though winning by 16 points is nice, we joined the league to play the matches, so we were a little disappointed by the Up in Smoke no-show.  We play Sam I Am at Poor Paul's next week.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    7
Sam I Am  12

The Professor & the Mechanics took on the 600 pound gorilla last night, and nearly pulled off the upset.  After a forfeit victory last week, P&M made what was essentially our debut against Sam I Am at Poor Paul's.  We found ourselves down by a mere point going into 4-man, but couldn't close either of the games, and lost by 5.  In singles, Rachael (with her sister, Andy, supporting her) beat Duski in 2 games.  Andrew lost to Greg 2-1, Erik lost to Ish 2-1, and Leroy fell to Lewis in a sweep.  P&M won the doubles event over the Tallahassee all-star team.  Andrew & Rachael won in a sweep, while Erik and Leroy took a game, giving us a 3-2 win in the event.  With confidence abound, P&M fell on our faces in 601 in front of our former captain and sponsor, Bill, and Trinka (aka Trixie of Trixie and the Mechanics).  Actually, it wasn't that we threw horribly in 4-man, but we were swept by a suddenly hot shooting Sam I Am team.  Next week, Bill will substitute for Andrew as P&M challenges Dawgs at Poor Paul's.

Bonus Points:
Andrew had 6.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    6
Dawgs  13

The Professor & the Mechanics lost respectably to another top-rated opponent last night at Poor Paul's.  Our sponsor and former captain, Bill substituted for Andrew, and inspired the team to win the second 601 game, thus closing the final margin.  In singles, Bill and Rachael were swept by John and Kelly, Leroy lost in 3 to Calvin, while Erik beat Sheila in both games.  In doubles, Bill and Rachael lost in 2 while Leroy and Erik won a game out of three.  After falling in the first game of 601, the team rallied behind a round of duck farts and our honorary captain to win the second game.  Unfortunately, the rally was short-lived ... we lost the finale in front of spectators Trinka and Andrew.  We'll try to win our first non-forfeited match next week against 5 Shafts = 10 Balls (who deserve to be beaten just because of their name) at the Hobbit.

Leroy had 5.

5 Shafts = 10 Balls  10

In dramatic fashion, the Professor & the Mechanics beat 5 Shafts = 10 Balls at the revamped Hobbit Hoagie last night.  The two teams played evenly throughout the night, with P&M winning the last game to secure the victory.  In singles, the two teams each scored 5 points:  Erik beat Pat 2-0, Andrew won 2-1 over Mike, Rachael managed a game against Lao, while Leroy lost in 2 to Will.  In doubles, the two teams each scored 3 points:  Andrew & Rachael won 2-1, while Leroy & Erik lost 2-1.  P&M won the first game of 601 for a brief two point lead.  However, 5=10 won the second game to even the match again, this time at 10 points apiece.  Knowing that the winner of the final game would claim the match, P&M hunkered down and found a way to win.  The win evens our season record at 2-2 with a match against Anger Management next week at the Salty Dawg.

Bonus Points:
Andrew had 5.
Rachael, Erik, & Leroy had 2.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    10
Anger Management  11

The dart schedule went on as planned last night after the terrible national tragedy on Tuesday.  For the second week in a row, the Professor and the Mechanics' match came down to the final dart in the final game.  This time, P&M fell short ... losing by a single point.  The evening started very as we won singles by a 7-3 margin:  Eric beat Dave in 2, Leroy won both games against Gil, Andrew won 2 of 3 from Glenn, while Rachael lost the rubber match to Carl.  Our fortunes took a dramatic turn for the worse in doubles, however.  Both sides lost in sweeps to the suddenly inspired Anger Management.  In 601, P&M came together to win the first game pulling us to an overall 10-8 lead.  But, we struggled to double on in the final two games, thus fell too far behind to win, though we did mount a valiant comeback.

Little Rascals  12

Spanky, Alphafa, and the rest of the Little Rascals schooled the Professor & the Mechanics last night at the Crawfordville Hobbit.  P&M had a chance to steal a victory by winning the first two 601 games, but were unable to hit the out in the first game, and never got going good in the second game.  The evening started inauspiciously as we dropped all singles games except Erik's 2-0 victory over Tex.  Andrew lost to Travis, Leroy to Jeff, and Rachael to Melissa.  With our sponsor, Bill, lending support, P&M reentered the match in doubles with a 3-2 victory ... Erik & Rachael won in 2 games, while Leroy & Andrew took a game.  This left us behind by a mere 3 points.  Unfortunately, we ended the night as we began it, losing 4-man in a sweep.  Next week, we try to end our 3 game snide with a match against Up in Smoke at the Salty Dawg.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    13
Up in Smoke  8

The Professor & the Mechanics looked sharp last night in picking up a win against Up in Smoke at the Salty Dawg.  Smoke, who forfeited to us in week 1, showed up this time but were distracted by a dispute with the bar staff.  This may or may not have contributed to the whupping laid down on them in doubles.  P&M also won the other two events to claim our third victory of the season.  In singles:  Andrew swept Chris C, Erik won in three over Jeff, Leroy fell to Skip and Rachael fell to Chris F ... both by 2-1 scores.  In doubles, Andrew & Leroy swept Skip & Jeff while Erik & Rachael won over Chris squared by a 2-1 score.  This gave us a 10-6 lead going into four-man, and we needed only 1 game to secure the victory.  We did more than that ... winning the first and third games for the five-point final margin.  Next week, we make our first appearance at the Sweet Shop against the heralded Sam I Am.

Sam I Am  14

Last night's match originally scheduled for the Sweet Shop was relocated to the Hobbit due to the poor conditions of the dart boards at the Sweet Shop.  We apologize to the fans who may have shown up at the campus bar to watch their favorite dart team, The Professor & the Mechanics.  The change in venue didn't help us win, although we didn't play all too bad.  The all-star team, Sam I Am, played to their ability, and whooped the upstart Professor & the Mechanics, who were still high on last week's 13-8 triumph.  Erik lead P&M in singles, upsetting Ish two games to one.  Rachael managed to take one game from Duski.  Andrew & Leroy were swept by Greg & Lewis.  In doubles, Andrew & Rachael were swept by Lewis & Duski in a revenge match, while Leroy & Erik lost in three to Ish & Greg.  Down 11-4 going into 4-man, and further going down 13-4 after losing the first game, most teams would have quit against the darting legends of Sam I Am.  But, the newly invigorated Professor & the Mechanics buckled down, and stole the second game ... picking up 2 huge points.  We lost the finale for the 8-point margin of loss.  We look to rebound next week against Dawgs.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    9
Dawgs  10

The Professor & the Mechanics pushed Dawgs to the limit last night at the Breakroom.  Dawgs, who were without two regular members, jumped out to a huge lead in singles, but collapsed to the inspired P&M in team 601.  The night started badly with each of P&M losing to Dawgs ... Andrew to Shu in three, Erik to John in three, Leroy to Kelly in three, and Rachael to Beth in two.   Doubles was a push as Erik & Rachael swept Shu & Beth, while Andrew & Leroy were swept by John & Kelly.  That left us in a 10-5 hole going into 4-man.  We made short work of Dawgs, winning both games en route to losing by the narrowest of margins.  Afterwards, Leroy & Andrew continued to try to achieve team unity by whooping a couple of locals in pool.  We'll look for our 4th win next week at the Hobbit.

5 Shafts = 10 Balls  9

The Professor & the Mechanics overcame a sluggish start to defeat 5 Shafts = 10 Balls last night at the Hobbit.  The victory was our 4th of the season, and our second against the upstart 5S=10Bs.  The start of the match was delayed, as our opponents waited for their 4th player.  When he didn't show, they secured a substitute (Bobby), and the match began.  In singles, we were handily defeated 7-4;  Andrew beat Bobby 2-1, Erik fell to Dave in three, Rachael lost to Will in three, and Leroy was swept by Mike.  We commenced our comeback in the doubles matches, as P&M swept the stunned 5S=10B.  Andrew & Leroy defeated Dave & Bobby, while Erik & Rachael won over Will & Mike.  The doubles win gave us a slim one-point advantage going into 601.  We quickly lost that lead by losing the first game.  However, we came together to win the second and third games, securing the two point victory.  P&M plans to reschedule next week's match against Anger Management because of Halloween.  I hope that doesn't upset them.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    8
Back Breakers  11

The Professor & the Mechanics fell behind 8-1 after singles, but rallied to outscore the Back Breakers 7-3 in doubles and four-man.  We were happy to have Rusty sub last night for Leroy, who is hunting and fishing in Canada.   Rusty is an old school Tallahassee darter, and we appreciate him driving out to Quincy to fill in for our team.  After the ride to the karaoke bar in Gadsden county, P&M was prepared to play the underranked Back Breakers.  Tracey, our dart league president, took their team name seriously when she fell at home to injure her neck and back.  However, she was able to play through the pain, and helped her team to dominate in singles.  Tracey beat Rachael in two, Lou beat Rusty in two, Ernie beat Erik in two, and Clint let a game slip away to Andrew.  P&M got it together in doubles, winning 4 of the 5 games.  Rachael & Erik topped Ernie and Tracey in a sweep, while Andrew & Rusty won two of three from Clint & Lou.  In 4-man, we were able to take two of the three hotly contested games.  Rusty earned his keep by doubling out in our two wins.  On the whole, we were satisfied with the 3 point loss - considering the disappointing start - and settled down to enjoy Bob & Jan, who were there as an insurance policy for Tracey, and others sing karaoke.

Bonus Points:
Erik had 7.
Andrew and Rusty had 3.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    7
Little Rascals  14

After welcoming Leroy back from his hunting trip in the Great White North, the Professor & the Mechanics lost a very frustrating match to the Little Rascals last night at Poor Paul's.  We blew many chances to win several of the singles games, thus fell behind early by a wide 8-2 margin.  Erik lost to Travis, and Rachael lost to Melissa ... both in sweeps.  Andrew lost to Tex, and Leroy lost to Jeff ... both in 3 games.  In doubles, we picked it up slightly.  Andrew & Leroy beat Jeff & Tex in three games, while Erik & Rachael lost in three games to Travis & Melissa.  This left us behind 11-5 going into 4-man.  We won the first game to close to within 4 points, but lost the final 2.  P&M will take Thanksgiving off before playing out finale against Anger Management at the Salty Dawg on the 28th.

Andrew had 5.

Final Score:
The Professor & the Mechanics    12
Anger Management  7

The Professor & the Mechanics finished the fall 2001 season on a positive note with a win over Anger Management.  After the second rescheduling of this match, we finally played last night at the Salty Dawg.  Out of the generosity of our hearts (and since we had no chance to win a trophy), we allowed the short handed Anger Management to use a sub who is an active member of the league.    We began the night with a split in singles:  Erik swept Jeff (the sub), Leroy topped Andy in three, Andrew fell to Dave in three, and Rachael lost in two to Nichole.  We nudged ahead in doubles:  Andrew & Leroy swept Jeff & Dave, while Rachael and Erik lost in 3 to Nichole and Andy.  That left us up by a point going into 601.  We dominated both games of 4-man to finish with an impressive 12-7 victory, avenging the 1 points loss earlier in the season to this team.  We decided to keep our team together next season, and look forward to kicking it off in January.  By then, Andrew will have another future darter.  He and his wife are expecting their son to be born in December.

Erik had 8.
Andrew had 6.
