I am a Professor in the department of Classics at Florida State University, where I have taught since 1993. I received an A.B. in Classics from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and my Ph.D., also in Classics, from Brown University. From 2002 to 2005 I was the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Classical Studies at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
My teaching and research focus on the history of the ancient Greek world and the uses of documents and writing in ancient Greek city-states.
I welcome inquiries from potential graduate students with interests in Greek history (especially the archaic and classical periods), Greek law and oratory, and Greek epigraphy.
