Professor Coutts's research focuses on the influence of the built environment and ecologically-sensitive land use practices on community health and health behavior.

Current Projects

Dr. Coutts is currently:
  • Co-editing a journal special issue that will include works from the spring 2012 symposium The Local Benefits of Sustainability
  • Coauthoring an article with Dr. Tim Chapin exploring the the spatial dimensions of residential choice among the elderly in Florida.
  • Collaborating with Dr. Carlton Basmajian to study the land use implications of the disposal of the dead in the U.S.  
  • Testing the efficacy of an assortment of landscapes metrics in predicting health outcomes and behaviors.
  • Composing an NIH proposal to support "obesegenic" environment research.
  • Producing a film on the health benefits of London parks.
