An A- Paper on "Why Was Jesus Executed?"
This paper received an
A-. It isn't perfect, but it will give you an idea of the kind
of thing I am looking for.
From the start, it is apparent that this is written by a student
who is familiar with theories about the New Testament, and
understands their significance: the theory of Markan Priority is
used to justify treating the synoptics as a single source, so
information common to these three Gospels is not multiple
attestation. Markan Priority is treated not as a certain fact,
but as the most widely accepted hypothesis. In the rest of the
paper, we have an extended discussion of the work of Kazen and
Horvath. These articles are both recently published in
respected, peer-reviewed journals. That means that they are good
scholarly sources, worthy of discussion. It is clear however
that the student does not simply take for granted that whatever
these writers say is true - their work is tested against the
primary sources.
