bio

I was born in Duisburg, Germany, on January 25, 1983, to a German father and Yugoslavian mother. I have a younger brother, Alexander, who just finished his BA and is working now. When I was young my family moved around a few times, but I spent most of my childhood in Ennepetal, Germany, a small town just south of the Ruhr area. I finished grammar school there and attended the local Gymnasium. My brother and I grew up speaking both German and Serbo-Croatian, and we spent every summer with our grandparents in a small village (Promajna) close to the town of Makarska in Croatia.

In 1999 my mother, brother, and I moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida. I am not quite sure why we immigrated to the USA, but possible explanations include sunshine and the consequent lack of rain, or better prospects for the future (whatever economic problems the US faces now, they seem to be worse in Germany). I technically came here with a German high school diploma (which you get after 10th grade there), but in the end I spent two more years at a high school here. High school graduation for the second time around was in 2001, and moved a few miles south to Jacksonville to go to the University of North Florida. In 2004 I received my BA, with a major in International Studies and a minor in Political Science. Since 2005 I have been at Florida State University in grand Tallahassee, Florida.
